The Cake

It was tradition in my family to have angel food cake on our first birthday and to do whatever we wanted with it. Well, we decided just to give Ashlyn and Brigg a slice of the cake and here are a few pictures. These pictures (as well as a few of the wagon ones) were also taken by Allison. What would we do without her! I especially love the last one-Ashlyn picked up a piece of cake with her fork, and then took if off her fork with her hand, and put it in her mouth with her hand!

The Wagon

We decided to get Ashlyn a wagon for her birthday about a month ago. Our cul-de-sac was celebrating the 4th and some of the neighbors had a wagon outside. They took Ashlyn on a ride and she was grinning from ear to ear the entire time. Well, I think our choice was a good one, because Ashlyn really appeared to enjoy the new wagon. The last two pictures show Ashlyn's two-year-old cousin, Marley, pulling her. Marley is one tough cookie--later that evening she was pulling her five-year-old and three-year-old cousin at the same time! Everyone was laughing their heads off because we couldn't believe she was actually strong enough to do it!

Let's Play Ball

One of the hit presents today was Brigg's basketball hoop. As you can see, Ashlyn didn't entirely get the idea of the game. I just think that she is creative. Brigg, on the other hand, was a pro. You would think he had an older brother who loved basketball or something! I especially love the last photo of Ashlyn with the small basketball in her hand, because it is so cute to see her walking. All of these pictures were taken by Allison. Thank you!

Fun Family Party

Ashlyn was born just 5 days after her cousin, Brigg, so we decided to celebrate their birthdays together this year. We went to the park near our house and cooked up some tinfoil dinners and then opened presents in the grass. The first photo is of Ashlyn gnawing on a corn cob--it was delicious, sweet corn so I don't blame her! The next two are of her and her cousin opening presents (kind-of). Lastly, a photo of Ashlyn chilling on the blanket (compliments of Allison).

Happy Birthday Ashlyn!

Ashlyn is 1 year old today! We are so thankful to have had such a wonderful first year with her and look forward to many more. She is such a beautiful, sweet angel and we feel so blessed to have her in our life. We love you Ashlyn!

One Year Ago Today

It was one year ago today that Ashlyn's delivery began. I had a doctor's appointment that morning and the midwife had me do another ultrasound. They had been concerned for several weeks that I was measuring so small. Well, in the ultrasound, it appeared that Ashlyn was the exact same size that she had been in an ultrasound 2 weeks earlier and the midwife was concerned that her growth had stopped, and they wanted to get her out! I went home to pack my bags and call Brad and then we headed to the hospital where they induced me with pitocin. My contractions began a little afer 9pm and she was born early the next morning!

Under the Weather

Well, it's one in the morning and I am all slept out. I woke up this morning feeling just awful-my stomach hurt, my head was pounding, and I couldn't get warm. It's been a while, but I recognized the signs . . . I was sick! I have spent as much of the day as possible lying in bed and sleeping whenever Ashlyn sleeps, and I don't think I have much more sleep left in me. This was a bummer of a day to feel lousy, because there were some fun things that I was looking forward to doing:

1. Thursday get-together with Tiffany and Kyle (we were going to story time at the library)
2. Baby shower for a sweetheart that I visit teach
3. Evan Draper's wedding reception

I didn't get to do a single one! I did, however, enjoy being home to see So You Think You Can Dance and having a nice, quiet house while Brad took Ashlyn to the reception.

Hopefully I'll be feeling 100% by 8 or so this morning so I can do the grocery shopping and the laundry!
